To the best of our knowledge, Medium allows you to read 3 stories per month as a non-member. If you are not a Medium member, then after the 3 reads the content gets “locked” so you can only read a few paragraphs.
But we will show you an exciting feature on Medium. So Medium non-members can read an unlimited number of your stories by leveraging the “Friend Link”. But we will show you where to get that link in a bit.
Notice how this particular Medium story includes the Medium friend link above the presentation image. There is the option for “Medium Non-Members Can Read The Full Story HERE!”. Because Medium non-members also want to read your work.
When you include the Medium Friend Link in your stories, then you allow non-members unlimited access. Therefore, they can read as many of your Medium stories as they wish.
The Medium friend link can be found when editing your Medium story and navigate to “More Settings” in the drop-down menu with the three dots to the top right-hand side. But we will get to the implementation next.

While editing your Medium story, as mentioned above, click on the three dots. Then click on “More Settings” for a page similar to the illustration below to open up.
This is also the Medium story editing page where you can optimize your article for SEO by changing the SEO description. But please don’t make any changes here unless you know exactly what you’re doing.
When you scroll down the page. You will end up at the “Friend Link”, right under “Promotion” as illustrated above. Right beneath the SEO description. You will also notice Medium mentioning what the friend link is all about.
This link guarantees anyone free access to your story, even if they’ve read all of their complimentary stories for this month.
That way, members and non-members alike can have unlimited access to reading your Medium stories. So while editing your Medium story, just click on “copy” the “friend link”.
Next, you simply want to go “back to the previous page” as illustrated above. Which should be your Medium article editing page. Then simply decide where and how you want to include the friend link in your Medium story.
We just like to include the friend link, right at the beginning of our Medium stories. Above the presentation image as mentioned earlier. Please don’t copy and paste the wording we use, be creative with positioning and wording.
Simply highlight the text you want to use. Then paste the Medium friend link with the options provided and press “Enter”. You can now save and publish your Medium story with the friend link included.
